January 24th we had a nice turnout. 14 darters with a 45 dartconnect overall average or under came out to compete. Congratulations to our winners. First place Cesar, second Eric, third Ryan and fourth Dawn. Ryan also earned highest out with a 106.
Some may ask- why this 45 avg & under tournament?
Fair competition = more fun
That means fewer blowouts, more pressure moments, and games that actually feel competitive instead of discouraging. If newer or lower-average players only ever face top shooters, they may lose a lot. That can kill motivation fast.
When lower-average players compete against similar skill levels, they get more visits on doubles. That repetition helps them learn their outs, improve decision-making, and build confidence finishing legs—skills that are essential to moving up levels.
We love to see people get better and continue , don't you?
Top level shooters will say that you need to play better people to get better. In some ways that is correct. The question is how much better? I am pretty sure those same people wouldn't be happy with their elementary/ middle school child playing against high school in basketball. Their child’s team never being able to set a play on offense because ball Is always stolen . Same with darts you need to play against better players but it doesn't help darters to practice their outs when their whole game is throwing for high numbers and no chance at setting up a double or even throwing at one.
If beginners feel welcome and valued, leagues and tournaments GROW instead of shrinking to only the hardcore elite. This is important to build up and grow our dart community in this area. We even had a player from a different club travel to this event Those that have been here for years remember the amount of gold teams that we use to have and the payout for Cleveland Extravaganza. If we want it back up closer to how it was , we need to do something different to get different results than what has been going on.
Quote by Donnie Pagel, "I look at it as more building confidence and familiarity with the game. I feel it’s only a positive to have a place for each. ... I’d rather there be a place for them to grow, develop and get a chance to get better instead of never playing again. Not everyone has the availability to play leagues to get their toes wet so I think it’s a great addition."
